Greenhouse Gas Regulations
The federal government's Output Based Pricing System (OBPS) which currently applies to Ontario came into effect on January 1, 2019. Following the repeal of the Cap-and-Trade Program and Green Energy Framework, in February 2019, Ontario introduced its plan to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions through the Industrial Emissions Performance Standards Program. Ontario’s EPS program must achieve the objective of the federal government’s program before equivalency can be granted to the province by the federal government (as of June 2019, the province's proposal had not yet been reivewed by the federal government for equivalency).
OSSGA member companies operate facilities that are not expected to generate significant greenhouse gas emissions. This is true for facilities that consist solely of aggregate extraction, processing and shipping. OSSGA has prepared this position paper to assist members in understanding how these changes may affect them.
Sample Air and Noise Environmental Compliance Application
The Air & Noise Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) ACME application package is provided to assist OSSGA members with the regulatory approval processes and compliance under Section 9 of the Environmental Protection Act.
The purpose of this ACME Aggregate example Air & Noise application is threefold: to demonstrate the information necessary to obtain an Air & Noise ECA; to help promote clarity in the submissions from aggregate producers for the benefit of aggregate producers and MOECC review engineers; to ensure a level of consistency among aggregate producers and the review engineers. This application uses a simplified limestone quarry facility to illustrate common issues at aggregate operations in general.
