TOUR SITES

CBM Douglas McLaughlin

This complex provided a variety of aggregate products to the east London market from 2001 until 2024. With the majority of activity from 2017 - 2023. The final rehabilitation has resulted in two premium residential/recreational lots with a private lake. A created wetland 65 acre lake and maintained forest habitat enhance the property. (OSSGA Awards Purple Hill 2023 & Douglas McLaughlin 2024 Judges Choice Award)

Wildwood Pit at Wildwood Conservation Area

This former rehabilitated sand and gravel pit now features a number of environmentally significant habitats including a tallgrass prairie plantation, a rare wetland community called a fen, a semi-arid section home to lichens and plants and an abundance of wildlife which thrive in the pond and habitats created on-site.

Olalondo Road Sites

This complex of licences has sites at all stages of aggregate operation. CBM has surrendered the five licences that it held in this location. The McGuffin, Olalondo and Diocese sites were restored to agriculture, largely enhanced with imported topsoil and the sites closer to the river/reservoir were restored to a wetland complex and residential recreational lot. The new owner of most of these properties will describe the site development. (OSSGA Awards McGuffin Judges Choice Rehabilitation 2015; Diocese Rehabilitation 2016, Fanshawe Heights Rehabilitation 2008. Archery Rehabilitation 2022)

St Marys Swimming Quarry

The St. Marys Quarry was formerly a limestone Quarry that closed in 1920. In the mid-1940s it was converted into a public swimming area and remains one of the most popular spots in the area to visit on hot summer days.  Tour the sites and learn the latest happenings at the site.

CBM Sugarbush

This UTRCA property was extracted from 2001 to 2006. It has resulted in a created wetland and natural habitat that blends seamlessly with the local environment. This site is a super example of matured rehabilitation where evidence of aggregate activities is very difficult to recognize. (OSSGA Rehabilitation Awards 2006, 2008 & 2014)

East Park Gardens and Golf Course

The second site to ever receive a Bronze Plaque Award, East Park Gardens and Golf Course won the distinction when it was transformed from a gravel pit to an outstanding recreational area for the community.
